About the Southend Area Bus User Group

The Southend Area Bus User Group "SABUG" was formed in April 2001 as the successor to the Southend Transport Bus User Group, set up over 15 years ago. We aim to represent bus users in the districts of Southend, Rochford and Castle Point. This includes Shoebury, Wakering, Rayleigh & Canvey Island. We don't cover Community Transport.

User Group representatives regularly meet with management from the two main bus companies in the area - Arriva Southend (formerly Southend Transport) and First Essex (formerly Thamesway). We also liase with the smaller operators in the area - Stephensons, Regal and NIBS.

We meet with Essex County Council and Southend Borough Council officers at least once a year, and frequently attend transport related meetings, especially ones covering implementation of Southend's Local Transport Plan (LTP). We write to companies and council representatives on a regular basis

There are nine of us on the committee and we meet every two months to discuss local bus issues and plan what to do next. We would like more people to join the committee, especially if you are from Shoebury or Canvey as we have no committee members from these areas. Anybody joining the committee must be willing to take on a role or promote SABUG, even if it's just giving out our Newsletter. We are in desperate need of a Treasurer following the sudden passing of our previous treasurer, Howard before Xmas.  He will be sorely missed. A Publicity Officer is also required.

The group is strictly non political.

We are a member of Bus Users UK (what was the National Federation of Bus Users - NFBU)

We are an affiliate member of CAVS (Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services)

We are an affiliate member of SAVS (Southend Association of Voluntary Services)

We are an affiliate member of RRAVS ( Rayleigh, Rochford and District Association for Voluntary Service)
