Essex County Council are to fund a replacement service 3 in lieu of the Regal service withdrawn on 23/12/17.
The replacement service is due to begin on 22/01/18 and will operate on Monday to Saturdays the full length of the route from Chelmsford into Southend, crucially ensuring that Daws Heath and rural communities between Rayleigh and Chelmsford retain a bus service.
Essex County Council has awarded the contract to Essex and Suffolk DaRT, with the service to run until 27th July 2020.
An Essex County Council statement advises that "The replacement of Service 3 has required the Council to commit to significant additional funding and I would urge residents to make use of the service as its future beyond 2020 will be largely dependent on its continued use".
SABUG thanks Essex County Council for committing additional funding at short notice at a time when the County Council’s budget for supporting local bus services was fully committed and appreciates the constructive dialogue between the County Council and local residents and stakeholders in devising a replacement timetable.
The service continues to serve RHS Hyde Hall providing a direct link to the gardens from Southend, Leigh, Hadleigh and Rayleigh.
